Pool Environment

HWater is the most important factor that creates pool environment. The ideal pool water is supposed to be sterile, have drinking water features, and these features should constantly be maintained.

In practices of water applications, dirty water is turned into clean water and is conveyed to users. In pool water, dirty water is turned into clean water, and then it is conveyed to users after it is re-cleaned because of pollutions and bacteria that forms over time.

It is hard to keep pool water clean, good and perfect. One can make use of professionally educated persons and superb systems, however, it is not possible to prevent these unexpected things to come out.

Microorganisms spread into pool water through organic and inorganic matters from any healthy human body (For instance, oil, sweat, nose-throat mucus, slaver, urea components, cosmetic products, sunblocks and soap wastes). Each person swimming in a pool causes millions of microorganisms (600 millions in one dive) to be mixed into pool water in addition to the pollutions not resolved in water.

Besides, other pollutants and microorganisms such as dust and algae seeds from environment are also mixed into water. As for open pools, apart from all these some polluting sources such as materials that protect from sun, grass, sand, soil etc could be mentioned.

As swimming pool is at a determined temperature, it can create an ideal environment for algea and bacteria to develop if not treated suitably.

Algeas, though not directly harmful for swimmers, can serve as a ground for microorganism, bacteria and fungus to feed on.

Althoug water seems brilliant, there may be tiny invisible particles spread inside water and some other colloidal matters. The colloids are all organic matters and they can serve as a protective element for bacteria and viruses, covering them and thus making the disinfection process not properly performed.

Another factor that prepares pool environment is pool construction and pool water hygiene systems. While these systems are installed, any case that may cause pool be closed down should be noticed beforehand and should be corrected. One should make sure that mechanical installations should be suitable with engineering calculations for material selection and that new technology is used in the making of these units which consist of pumping, filtration, balancing the chemicals, disinfection and heating systems.

One should also keep in mind that other factors that create the environment such as humidity, heat, illimunation, acoustic, size, emergecny systems and periodical deparment cleaning of pool environment also play an important role.

Pollution type Size of particle Pollutants Removal and Reduction method
Large floating particles > 1 mm Hair, dandruff, textile fibers By filtration
Large blurring matters 1...0,0001 mm. Skin scales, oil and soap wastes, creams By settling and filtration
Colloidal matters 0,0001...0,0000001 Cosmetics, mucus, slaver, microorganisms, viruses By settling and filtration
Fully-solved organic matters >0,0000001 mm. Urea and sweat components, amino acids, microorganisms (viruses) By oxidation, disinfection (chlorine, dioxide, ozone)
Fully-solved anorganic matters and not decaying organic matters Solved Sodium chlorine, nitrates, chloramines Their proportions are reduced by adding clean water.
